Horse Head Theatre shakes it up with AMONG THE THUGS
Generals of Hate soccer thugs show up for battle beginning September 16, 2010
WHAT: It’s the best drug around. Better than dope, heroine, cocaine…better than sex even. It’s their reason for existence. It’s the experience, the seduction, of crowd violence.
Adapted by Tom Szentgyorgyi from the book by Bill Buford, AMONG THE THUGS is about an American journalist living in England who becomes intrigued with the behavior of the British football hooligans and the sociological implications of these behaviors. In the midst of his investigation he becomes so involved with this group of men that he succumbs to the “pack mentality,” and must struggle with his own morality as he becomes a willing participant in their mindless violence.
In line with the company’s mission, Horse Head Theatre’s goal with all of its shows is to create a theatrical presentation that reinvigorates the soul and reawakens the human spirit. AMONG THE THUGS audiences should come prepared to move according to the action taking place around them and should know that the senseless violence that takes place may cause feelings of intrigue, excitement, disgust, and disbelief.
