On the third Wednesday of every other month at the Artist SPEAKeasy, Spacetaker hosts artists from varying disciplines to present creative presentations about their work in an informal atmosphere followed by a question and answer session where the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process. The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists and their chosen media. Drinks and nosh are served at 6:30; formal talks are underway at 7:00. Guests are invited to come and go as necessary.
April's Artist SPEAKeasy features visual and conceptual artist Carrie Schneider and dancer and choreographer Kristina Andriana Koutsoudas.
About Carrie Schneider:
Carrie Schneider is a visual and contemporary artist who sees artists as activators, free agents, problem solvers, tricksters, healers, liminal space dwellers and conduits for change. She searches out what role art has as the ceremony, ritual, and meaning-making method of our times. At the Artist SPEAKeasy, Schneider will share about her work with refugee youth from Burma, her participatory experiments at labotanica, and upcoming audio library of public generated walking tours around Houston.
About Kristina Andriana Koutsoudas:
Kristina Koutsoudas is an independent choreographer, performer, and teacher of contemporary and folkloric dances of the Middle East and North Africa. With more than 15 years of experience as a cultural dancer and theatrical artist, Koutsoudas is primarily interested in rights of passage and the ritual of dance.
