Every third Wednesday of the month at the Artist SPEAKeasy, Spacetaker hosts artists from varying disciplines (visual, performing, literary, etc.) to present, in an informal atmosphere, creative dialogs/talks/presentations about their work followed by a question and answer session where the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process. The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists and their chosen media. Drinks and nosh are served at 6:30; formal talks are underway at 7:00. Guests are invited to come and go as necessary.
February's Artist SPEAKeasy features visual artist Melanie Schlossberg and a collaborative project between artist Brent Bruni Comiskey and Houston design firm Culture Pilot.
About Melanie Schlossberg:
Through depictions of plants, animals and stars Melanie’s work explores cycles of kinesis and stasis, patterns of growth and change, and meditations on vulnerability and the passage of time. Her current project includes a series of illustrations of the classical constellations using a contemporary sensibility while respecting the ancient heritage of the stars. She has a BFA in Metalsmithing from Syracuse University, NY. Her work, flat and dimensional, has been shown in galleries throughout the United States. Melanie resides in Houston, TX where she runs a fine and graphic arts studio and is part of the marketing department at the Houston based art consulting firm, Skyline Art Services, which focuses on the healthcare industry and the healing aspects of artwork.
