McWhorter Gallery Presents “Black and White,” a group exhibit Feb. 27
(HOUSTON) McWhorter Gallery presents “Black and White,” featuring new work by Matt Messinger, Allan Rodewald, Roberto Del Rio, Kevin Peterson, Janet Wayte, Jane Dipaolo, Taft McWhorter and Lindsay Peyton. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 27 at the gallery’s location at 2119 Canal Street.
“Art in black and white explores contrast – positive and negative space, depth and simplicity, yin and yang,” said gallery owner and founder Taft McWhorter. “Color is usually so essential to an artist's arsenal; the lack of color allows us to see the artist's raw and innate talent to communicate through their work.”
The paintings and sculptures exhibited will demonstrate a range in media, subject and style, but all of the artists exhibiting their work are Houstonians.
“We are trying to distinguish our gallery by showing only Houston artists,” said gallery director Lindsay Peyton. “We want to do all that we can to promote the Houston art.”
To accomplish this goal, the gallery also offers consulting services for artists, as well as an art rental program for area businesses.
“We want to do what we can to help the Houston art community grow,” McWhorter said. “We hope that people come to see what our local art community can do with just some black and white paint.”
