labotanica presents a closing production of eye-candy delectably, a month-long performance installation by Y. E. Torres. Combining themes of exhibitionism, delight, perversion and pain, eye-candy delectably has transformed as an evolving installation that documents Torres’ exploration of invented characters and the life of the line that leads to their creation. Over the course of five weeks, Torres has utilized labotanica as a stage, gallery, store and studio installation to create her most immersive, multi-sensory exhibition to date.

While varying in form, eye-candy delectably frames the physicality, sensuality and androgyny of the body as it exists two-dimensionally as drawings and photographs, three-dimensionally as sculpture and installation and in real time through performance and video. This performance installation defies categorization while blending elements of fashion, photography, costume design, collage and movement.

Situating labotanica as a work space, exhibition space and performance space, eye-candy delectably frames Y. E. Torres' artistic vision to include multiple art forms into one event. eye-candy delectably will be open to the public each weekend for a viewing of the transformation progress, including free Art Party workshops, poetry readings and concerts by Houston area experimental musicians. The closing reception for eye-candy delectably will feature performances by Y. E. Torres, Mickey Katy, Jessie Guerrero, poetry by Loueva Smith, photography by Ben Tecumseh Desoto, Richard Tomcala, Mauro Luna, and Martha Corn and artwork by Y. E. Torres. Off the Needles: Matthew Glover at the I continues until August 7

The_I_MatthewGlover_KerrisaStanding.jpg

Curated by Christina Summers, Off the Needles by Matthew Glover consists of a large scale photo tapestry and the patterns used to construct it. Glover's work appropriates the viewers' mind to find the finished result. Whether this is done with modern imagery on knitted tapestries, hidden artwork that needs to be sought out, or through superimposition of media, the viewer is always the unique final collaborator. Glover undertakes this task by interpreting knitting patterns or finding the most minimalist expression of the body. In his work the traditionally feminine art of knitting, is interpreted by the male hand, just as the female figure is so often, classically interpreted by the male artist.
