On Saturday, November 7, the First Saturday Arts Market kicks off
the holiday shopping season in The Heights with work from dozens of
artisans, jewelers, craftsmen and musicians from all over the greater
Houston area on view.
Founded in March 2004, the First Saturday Arts Market has proven
there is room among the thriving art galleries in Houston for a monthly
arts market. Patrons strolling among 40 canopied tents will find
everything from gigantic abstract paintings to hand cut stainless steel
flowers, original hand-cast silversmith pendants and hand carved
mesquite statues. Virtually every art medium and style is represented
monthly from artists living in Houston, Austin, Brenham and
occasionally from Louisiana.
The featured entertainment for November is multi-award-winning
vocalist Myrna Sanders who will take the stage at 4 p.m. Sanders
currently performs not only as a solo artist, but also with her Janis
Joplin Tribute Band, Kozmic Pearl, with Love Street Light Circus, and a
new original project called STEMM. Citing influences from Linda
Ronstadt, Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin and even Robert Plant, expect to
hear a wide assortment from this talented lady who can be seen around
southeast Texas on any given night or day.
