Guitarist Eliot Fisk and Carpsichordist John Gibbons

Favorites of Da Camera audiences and virtuoso soloists, guitarist Eliot Fisk and harpsichordist John Gibbons join forces in an unusual duo recital presented at The Menil Collection on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 7:30 PM. Fisk and Gibbons perform separately and together in this concert of music by Bach, Italian Baroque masters Scarlatti, Vivaldi and Corelli and two great Spanish Romantics.

Works on the program include arrangements of Bach’s Sonata in E Major, BWV 1016 and the Organ Trio Sonata BWV 525 in C Major, Corelli’s Variations on the Folia d’España and Vivaldi’s Sonata in G minor RV42. John Gibbons performs three of Scarlatti’s virtuosic keyboard sonatas. Eliot Fisk performs his own arrangements of works by the Spanish composers Ernesto Halffter and Isaac Albéniz.

A creative innovator linked to the great romantic tradition of the past, guitarist Eliot Fisk is one of the most exciting and unique artists before the public today.  Fisk is known world wide for his adventurous repertoire and willingness to take art music into unusual venues. Called “A fiery missionary to the unconverted” by The New York Times, Eliot Fisk was the last direct pupil of famed Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia.

A distinguished keyboard artist, John Gibbons has appeared throughout North America, Europe and Australia as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Boston Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Northwest, the Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto Italy, the Boston Museum Trio, the Boston Symphony, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Apollo’s Fire and many others. He has recorded for Arabesque, Centaur, Delos, Harmonia Mundi, Nonesuch, Philips and RCA Victor. Mr. Gibbons teaches harpsichord and fortepiano, lectures and directs the Bach Ensemble at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
