contributed their time and treasure to a number of educational and cultural
institutions. A substantial gift to Rice University helped fund the
rehabilitation of Autry Court, now Tudor Fieldhouse, that benefits not only the
basketball players but provides a much better experience for the fans as well.
Bobby Tudor is co-chair of Rice’s Centennial Campaign, its $1 billion
fundraising strategy to launch Rice into its second century. The campaign has
reached more than half its goal and will provide funds for new buildings and
improved campus facilities as well as research, scholarships, and faculty.
Tudor is also chairman of the Society for the Performing Arts and president of
the Houston Symphony Society.
Phoebe Tudor
holds a Masters degree in historic preservation from Columbia University and ichair of the Julia Ideson Library Preservation Partners. She is leading the
challenge to raise $38 million to expand and restore the historic building and
to be one of the first Texas Historic Landmark projects on track for LEED
certification. The Tudors have chaired many fundraising events for a variety of
non-profits organizations and have given generously to Houston’s cultural life.

Since
1989 the Rice Design Alliance gala has recognized individuals and institutions
that have made exceptional contributions to architecture and design in Houston
and Texas. These include Gerald D. Hines, George and Cynthia Mitchell, Warren
S. Bellows, Jr., Stanley Marcus, Raymond Brochstein, Herbert Wells, and Sadie
Gwin Blackburn.
It is anticipated
that over 1,000 architects, design professionals, engineers, contractors,
developers, and RDA members will attend this popular annual event. Funds raised
will support the 2010 RDA programs and its journal Cite: The Architecture +
Design Review of Houston.
