Free Press Summerfest
Eleanor Tinsley Park
Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6, 2010
This June 5th and 6th, we wage the good war against misperceptions about conceptual art. In the midst of Houston’s premiere music festival we aim to stop passersby in their tracks and provide insights into how art is part of everyday lives. Public art has always battled between artworld depth and community perception. Of the 30,000 visitors expected at this year’s Summerfest, doubtlessly some will walk away without a hint that there was even art amidst the throngs- but in every day touched by Houston’s artists wandering Eleanor Tinsley Park, setting up installations, working with kinetic sculpture, painting, gesturing, fiddling and breathing we know that art is realized as a living barometer of phenomenological acuity.
Join us at Summerfest for kinetic sculpture by Patrick Renner, live painting by Skeez 181, performance art by members of Performance Art Night, installation art by Daniel Adame and Lane Hagood, build-your-own Lego sets by Jason Poland, video from the A/V Swap, an interactive booth by The Joannex, air guitar styling by Jacob Calle, performances by Nancy Douthey and much more.
