Houston, TX – Opening weekend of Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre 2010 features the compelling Tirkedu Houston! and Houston Ballet II January 15-17.
Tirkedu Houston! is an Israeli Folk Dance Weekend. Ofer Alfasi, the young Markid (dance leader) from the south of Israel has increasingly been making a mark both at home and abroad returns to lead Tirkedu Houston! Alfasi is known for his enthusiastic teaching style and magnetic personality. The workshop begins Friday, January 15 and concludes Sunday, January 17. The weekend will include two teaching sessions for intermediate to advanced dancers on Saturday with reviews at the end of each session, one partner session on Sunday morning, a review session of all dances early Sunday afternoon and a Saturday night dance party for dancers and non-dancers.

Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre continues with Houston Ballet II in Around the World in Seven Dances, as part of the Children’s Performing Arts Series on Sunday, January 17 at 3:00 p.m. Around the World in Seven Dances teaches the history, culture and music of the seven continents through ballet and slides. This multi-media program incorporates traditional world music and instruments in its journey of the seven continents. A party follows the performance featuring Middle Eastern music and sumptuous delicacies of Israel.
