Houston artist Allan Rodewald heads to Monaco for Art Fair
(HOUSTON) Houston artist Allan Rodewald has shipped his paintings for a journey that will take them across the ocean and eventually to the Mediterranean principality of Monaco. Rodewald was invited to exhibit his works in collaboration with Seattle’s La Familia Gallery at the Art Monaco ‘10 Salon d'Art Contemporain Art Fair.
“As you might guess, I accepted the invitation.” Rodewald said. He met the owners of La Familia Gallery while he was exhibiting at Art Basel Miami Beach, one of the nation’s most celebrated art shows. “The show was a success. I sold two paintings, made great contacts, and exposed my work to an international market. Plus, it has led me to this opportunity to show my works at one of the world’s most prestigious international art fairs.”
Art Monaco '10 Special Edition will be held April 29 to May 2 as an exclusive event promoting contemporary art. The art will be exhibited in Monaco at the Diaghilev Exhibition Hall of the Grimaldi Forum, which will be transformed into a 35,000 square foot art gallery for the occasion. Galleries and artists from around the world will showcase and sell their original creations during the four-day festival. A VIP reception on April 29 will kick off the event, followed by three full days of exhibits open to the public.
“I am very excited to share my work with this international, sophisticated market,” Rodewald said. He plans on keeping his fans at home updated with pictures, observations and short videos on Facebook.
Rodewald says he pursues abstract art to escape the limits of the real world. He studied art as a youth in the rural southeast, with his mother and father as his first teachers. He quickly moved from charcoal and pastels, until began using oils at age12. While earning a B.F.A. degree in drawing and painting at Siena Heights College, he studied art in Florence, Rome and Venice. He has created his own business in Houston, Expressive Design Studios, which specializes in custom paint and graphic arts and doubles as his studio and art gallery. Rodewald’s work is represented in fine art galleries across the country, including Alan Day Gallery in Santa Fe, Diana Levine Fine Art in Boston and McWhorter Gallery in Houston.
