Grand Prize distinction has been awarded to the International Sonoran Desert Alliance in Arizona for their work to create The Curley School, a model of community-engaged artist space development that has generated cultural equity, sustained historical memory, and a reinvigorated local economy. Additionally, five organizations spanning from Lexington, KY to Los Angeles, CA have received Honorable Mention for their outstanding work to connect artists with opportunities to deepen their creative practice, create new work, and foster community through the process of artmaking.
LINC, in partnership with MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning and through a funding collaboration of the Ford Foundation and the MetLife Foundation, launched the MetLife Innovative Space Awards in 2009 in order to promote and reward best practices in the development of artist space around the country. The ISAs combine unrestricted awards ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 with value added support such as technical assistance and other learning activities.
