Taft McWhorter Fine Art Moves to Canal Street
(HOUSTON) Taft McWhorter Fine Art (TMFA) celebrated its grand opening this
month and already the gallery is making a major change. TMFA will move to a new location near
Minute Maid Park at 2219 Canal Street in January.
“While we are going to miss the artist
community at Winter Street Studios, we are excited about the possibilities our
new location next door to Canal Street Gallery will offer,” Taft McWhorter said.
“We will have more wall space for our artists.”
TMFA’s first featured artist in the
new space will be Allan Rodewald, who has just returned to Houston after
exhibiting at Art Basel Miami, considered the most important art show in the
United States. The public is
invited to the opening reception, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30.
Rodewald is among several Houston artists the gallery
represents including Kevin Peterson, Matt Messinger, Ian Anderson, Justin
Garcia, Roberto Del Rio, Jane DiPaolo, Van McFarland, Anne-Joelle Galley and
Chris Silkwood.
“We are trying to distinguish our gallery by showing
only Houston artists,” said gallery director Lindsay Peyton. “We also offer a consulting service for
artists and an art rental program for area businesses.”
TMFA will eventually be debuting a
new logo designed by Gateway Design, Inc., a Houston design firm that
specializes in branding and marketing.
“We are looking forward to a new
year in Houston,” McWhorter said.
“We hope that our new location and new logo will help us bring local
artists to national prominence.”
