White Linen Night Expands to Woodland Heights

HOUSTON, TX – July 28, 2010 -- Dee Dillman is thrilled to hang the White Linen Night banner in front of her shop, Kaboom Books.  “White Linen Night is coming to the Woodlands Heights,” she exclaims.  She positions the flag perfectly so passing cars on Houston Avenue will see, and greets customers with, “So, do you have any plans for August 7?”

According to Mitch Cohen, the event’s coordinator, this is the first year businesses in the Woodlands Heights will have a show of force during White Linen Night.

Two shuttles will transport passengers to and from the 100 year-old historic Woodland Heights neighborhood between 6 and 10 p.m. Pickup points are on the border of the Historic and Woodland Heights and include Bayland, White Oak and Houston Avenue.  Stops include the Houston Avenue shops, Spanish Flowers Restaurant and the businesses on 11th Street near the corner of Studewood.

“There is a lot of activity to entice people to get off those shuttles at the Houston Avenue shops,” Cohen said.

Kaboom Books will feature the work Houston contemporary artists including Ian Anderson, Justin Dunford, Matt Messinger and Lindsay Peyton.  Next door, Bates Photography will also feature an art show. The band Young Girls will perform in the parking lot across the street.

Other Woodland Heights participants include Marq Hair Salon, My Fit Foods, Rest & Relax Massage Therapy, NiaMoves and BrightWhite Teeth Whitening.

Billed as "Sultry, Steamy, Exotic," White Linen Night is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 7. The Houston Heights invites visitors and art lovers to wear white linen, explore the neighborhood, and celebrate the annual event.
