Call to Artists: "Peace"

KAXM Gallery announces a call to artists for the month of September. The opening reception will be held Saturday September 4.

The theme for the September show is “Peace” and artists are asked to interpret what the word ‘peace’ means to them. The Peace show will complement the Peace One Day movement, as well as the International Day of Peace.

The International Day of Peace takes place on September 21. It was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly, which was held annually on the third Tuesday of September. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.

In 2002 the UN officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace and as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. Take this opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts of our time. Imagine what a whole Day of Ceasefire would mean to humankind.

KAXM Gallery will celebrate International Day of Peace throughout the month of September with special guest speakers, poetry readings, musical guests, and other activities. A portion of the gallery’s profits will be donated to the Mahatma Gandhi Library in Houston.

Artists, photographers, sculptors, and jewelry designers who are interested in showcasing their work in a new venue are invited to submit.

To receive information on artist fees and detailed submission guidelines, email dshelton@kaxmgallery.com. Please include pictures of current work or a link to the artist website, along with a 100-word artist statement/bio suitable for the gallery website and promotional materials.
