Foundation for Modern Music

Established in Houston in 1986, the Foundation for Modern Music had as its original mission the making of high quality recordings of significant concert music by 20th Century composers, with a particular emphasis on American composers. Beginning in 1999 under the artistic direction of composer/pianist Robert Avalon, the Foundation also focused on building audiences and public support for contemporary music in the classical tradition through concerts, educational outreach, and encouraging and supporting young composers. Today, FMM is Houston’s leading presenter for this type of music.

Foundation for Modern Music is dedicated to presenting, recording and promoting new music in the classical tradition and the musicians who create it, by offering concert performances, community and educational outreach and competitions for composers. We encourage and celebrate the vigorous and diverse work of today’s composers and performers, in Houston and beyond.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a board reflective of Houston’s diverse community, the Foundation works to promote wider exploration and fuller enjoyment of the evolution of classical music in our own time.
