Founded in 1998, innovative, imaginative, theatrical and daring, Psophonia Dance Company (PDC) is dedicated to enhancing their community by creating and presenting dances that will entertain, intrigue, delight and educate audiences of all ages. One of Houston's most promising dance companies, Psophonia is known for its ability to engage the audience on a truly unique level, by re-examining everyday objects -like tires, mattresses and parachutes – then transports the audiences from the point of recognition to the point of discover and infinite possibility. Combining artful contemporary dance with a distinctively theatrical twist on the ordinary, Psophonia strives to bring contemporary dance to the forefront.

Torres and Sonia Noriega, Psophonia has produced 14 full concerts featuring over 40 original works that have premiered locally and nationally at events such as the Bayou City Arts Festival, Cincinnati Fringe Festival and Dance USA. Psophonia continues to entertain audiences in concerts held at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Miller Outdoor Theatre and Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex.

Psophonia is committed to providing quality arts in education programming through residencies and in school performances realized through partnerships with Young Audiences of Houston, Uniquely Houston's Discovery Series and the Harris County Department of Education.  Since its inception, PDC has been active in developing and implementing arts in education programs. PDC has created strong in school residencies that target specific academic curriculum based in the teacher’s units of study. Rather than simply read and memorize material, students are involved in activities that encourage movement exploration of information. They engage both their minds and their bodies as they learn about the Solar System, investigate life cycles and identify characters, plot and setting through story ballets.  Psophonia also continues to develop student performances designed to educate our youth on our diverse community thereby encouraging acceptance and appreciation of other cultures.
