Toni Leago Valle has a three-fold career as a choreographer and performer, a teacher, and a marketing and PR consultant. Ms. Valle received a B.A. in Theatre, specializing in dance, from University of Houston in 2000.
As a choreographer, Ms.Valle has received two Individual Artist Grants from Houston Arts Alliance to produce It’s All Relative in 2002 and again in 2007 for her third evening-length concert, Tetris, that premiered in January 2009. Ms. Valle premiered the solo, I Am Mother (2005), a white-painted goddess inspired by Japanese Butoh dance, that was later adapted for Psophonia Dance Company’s Phantasia 2005. Ms. Valle premiered CRACKED, her second evening length concert, in December 2006 as a recipient of a DiverseWorks Artist Residency. She served as Resident Choreographer for Dancepatheatre fro two years and her choreography has been seen at DiverseWorks, JCC, University of Houston, San Jacinto College, HSPVA/Houston, Freneticore Theatre’s Fringe Festival and various art openings and outdoor events. In 2010, Ms. Valle received another DiverseWorks Artist Residency to premiere her new dance company, 6 Degrees on a split bill concert alongside Amy Ell, who is premiered her new dance company, Vault.
As a performer, Ms. Valle has performed with Suchu Dance, Becky Valls & Company for Young Audiences, Dancepatheatre, Psophonia Dance Company, and is currently a member of Travesty Dance Group. Through Young Audiences, Ms. Valle travels throughout the Houston and Beaumont areas, performing a 45-minute program created by Becky Vall, that teaches science through kinesthetic movement, and combines poetry, music, and dance as a way to introduce and enforce science concepts through several modes of learning.
Ms. Valle has also been an adjunct faculty at the University of Houston in the School of Theatre & Dance for five years. Ms. Valle teaches production and dance aesthetics, as well as hands-on training to produce both UH dance concerts each season. Ms. Valle also serves as a liason between pre-professional dancers and the Houston professional community, inviting choreographers to meet up-and-coming choreographers and dancers.
As Project Coordinator of Dance Source Houston, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting dance, Ms. Valle maintained the houstondance.org website, the DSH Dance newsletter, the DSH marketing table and the printed Dance Card. The Austin-Houston Choreographer Exchange, Life Museum, and two collaborations with Buffalo Bayou ArtPark are a few of the concerts Ms. Valle has co-produced. Ms. Valle has expanded to include production and promotional services for art organizations, such as Ad Deum Dance Company, FLY Dance Company, BBAP, Houston Ballet, Mercury Baroque Ensemble, Psophonia Dance Company, Sandra Organ Dance Company, Society for the Performing Arts, Chrysalis Dance Company, Suchu Dance, and many others. Through DSH, she continues to serve as a marketing consultant and graphic designer for small- and mid-level companies, teaching production and marketing skills and giving valuable and much needed help in graphic design and marketing at an subsidized rate.
